While I was out of town, Phase II of Art of Animation opened. The first phase (Finding Nemo) has now been joined by a Cars section, and it's phenomenal. There is a LOT to like about this section of the hotel. In fact, I like it even better than the rest of the hotel, which I reviewed positively enough as it is.
The core functionality is not in question; this is a section made up of three hotel "blocks", so we're really dealing mostly with hotel buildings. Once you're inside, you'll find a few nice touches (cones for lights, high-res paintings, interstate symbols on finder signs).
The facades leading into the buildings really sparkle.
There's a pool here; a little crescent-shaped number with not a lot of capacity, and some highly-themed "crazy cone motel" shade structures (not quite bungalows).
But the real attraction here is the huge volume of photo opportunities with the cars from Cars. You can walk right up and pose with them, and it's a real crowd pleaser.
I like that they paid close attention to even small details in this new section.
The giant billboards on the ends of the building are also great.
