Busch Gardens adds in-park App to Android

Tampa, Fla. (Dec. 19, 2011) – Over the summer, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay put the park in guests’ hands with the launch of its first-ever interactive iPhone application. In response to popular demand, the free app is now available in the Android Market as well.
The Busch Gardens app utilizes GPS technology to guide guests through the park. The free app is designed to make guests’ experience even better by giving them park details at their fingertips and helping them get the most out of their day.

The interactive map shows guests where they are located in the park and allows them to highlight the quickest real-time route to their next destination by clicking the “Take Me There” button on any destination page. Whether the destination is a restaurant, show, roller coaster or animal habitat, the app provides information on its location, menu, restrictions, wait times and more. Guests can also search for the nearest restrooms, lockers and ATMs.

It’s as easy as searching the word “Cheetah” to find a path to the new Cheetah Run habitat. Along the way guests are able to uncover fun facts about our animals. They can also connect to social media sites to share photos with friends and keep up with Busch Gardens’ Facebook and Twitter feeds.

New Busch Gardens App Features:
  • Interactive real-time map
  • Updated ride wait times and height requirements

Fantasy of Flight 2012 symposium series

POLK CITY, Fla. (Nov. 17, 2011) - History cannot be rewritten, but Fantasy of Flight is bringing America's proud military history to life in an even more compelling and deeply personal way this year through its Fourth Annual Legends & Legacies Symposium Series, which features new and seldom explored aspects of World War II and for the first time, the Vietnam War.

Each year, Central Florida's premier aviation attraction and home to the World's Greatest Aircraft Collection™, creates a forum for the public to hear firsthand about the experiences of some of America's most courageous aviators and military heroes through permanent and semi-permanent exhibits, real aircraft, and most importantly, their own personal stories, recollections from their family members, and interactions with guests. The multi-day events feature several open-forum/question-and-answer sessions as well as meet/greet autograph signings with the guest speakers.

"Each year, the Legends & Legacies experience is different from the last, with new guest speakers, new stories, new interactions with guests, and new topics to explore, including three all-new events this year," said Kim Long, General Manager of Fantasy of Flight. "The opportunity to hear firsthand from military veterans, especially those who fought in World War II and Vietnam, is a precious gift that we hope to share with as many guests as possible throughout the 2012 series."

The 2012 Legends & Legacies Symposium Series includes:

They Dared to Fly: Tuskegee Airmen, Feb. 9-11 - In honor of Black History Month, several of the nation's first African-American military aviators will share their personal stories of what it was like to serve as a World War II pilot in the military during segregated America. Fantasy of Flight's permanent multi-media Tuskegee Airmen exhibit and vintage aircraft collection, including the P-51C Mustang, provide the perfect backdrop for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the brave men who fought America's enemies abroad while enduring racism at home.

Breaking All Barriers: Amazing Women in American History, March 2-3 - In honor of National Women's History Month, Fantasy of Flight celebrates the barrier breaking women who took on non-traditional roles during WWII, including the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) ̶ the first women to fly military aircraft ̶ and all those entered the workforce for the first time in the spirit of "Rosie the Riveter."
WASP Standing by a plane
Bea Haydu, a featured WASP, reflects back at the AT-6 displayed at Fantasy of Flight
Unspoken Valor: The Bomber Crews of World War II, April 13-14 - New to the Legends & Legacies line up this year, the event promises harrowing tales from actual crewmen of WWII bomber planes such as the B-25 Mitchell, B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator - all incredible planes with amazing strengths but potentially catastrophic weaknesses. Fantasy of Flight's own bombers set the stage for this unforgettable weekend.

D-Day: The Invasion of Normandy, May 11-12 - Guests will relive the most complex military initiative in world history as the men who were there recount their experiences as part of this massive air, land, and sea attack. Months in the making, it required the coordination of thousands of Allied forces, who once set in motion, could not be called back.

Reflections of Vietnam, June 8-9 - For the first time, Fantasy of Flight's Legends & Legacies series will explore the Vietnam War, America's longest conflict and first military failure on foreign soil. Here, those who bravely stood up to serve will share their personal experiences about this complicated and emotional time in U.S. history.

Letters Home: Love, Courage & Survival, Oct. 12-13 - Fantasy of Flight delves into the WWII era like never before with the final event of the 2012 series, based on the deeply personal handwritten correspondence exchanged between the brave men who fought abroad and the women and loved ones they left behind. Whether they were high school sweethearts separated by the war or soldiers who met the love of their lives while serving overseas, their letters portray a wartime experience that can't be found in history books.

Symposium events are included in the price of Fantasy of Flight general admission and are free for annual pass holders. General admission is $28.95 for adults, $26.95 for seniors ages 55 and over and $14.95 for children, ages 6-12, plus 7 percent sales tax. Children five and under are free with full paying adult. Group rates are available for groups of 15 or more; for more information, call 863-984-3500, ext. 220. For general information, visit www.fantasyofflight.com.

Fantasy of Flight is Central Florida's premier aviation-themed attraction showcasing vintage aircraft from the world's largest private collection; themed immersion experiences; interactive exhibits; a tram tour of aircraft maintenance areas; Restoration and Backlot tours; Fun with Flight center for families and the country's only Aerial Demonstration of the Day (weather permitting) featuring a vintage plane. General admission also includes The Tuskegee Airmen - They Dared to Fly exhibit; the multimedia tribute to the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) - A Passionate Pursuit, a walking audio tour and many special events throughout the year.

New at Fantasy of Flight this year is Wing WalkAir, a thrilling outdoor attraction featuring a 600-foot zip line suspended four stories above water and a three-level ropes course complete with 33 midair challenges to be performed while tethered to an overhead line at heights of up to 45 feet. Ideal for families, couples, student/youth groups or corporate groups seeking teambuilding opportunities, Wing WalkAir is the first attraction of its kind in Polk County, located midway between Tampa and Orlando. Disneyland for Vegetarians - kindle book (not mine) - http://www.amazon.com/DISNEYLAND-FOR-VEGETARIANS-ebook/dp/B006KWKY3K/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1323953486&sr=1-1

I dare not write another Disney restaurants/menu book; the first one (in 2007) died a quick death because I had to change its name due to trademark issues, and the revised one (in 2008) never got traction as a result. It's just how amazon works.

But someone's made a dining book for Disneyland. And not just dining, but specifically vegetarian. I haven't seen it yet, but it's good to know it's out there!

Personally, I only buy print books. I like knowing that if I pick it up in 25 years, the technology will still work (that is very unlikely with kindle).

Expansion for Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando

Warner Bros. and Universal Parks and Resorts to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Universal Studios Hollywood

Significant Expansion Also Planned for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort

Hollywood, CA (Dec. 6, 2011) - Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal Parks and Resorts today announced a partnership to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – the enormously popular themed entertainment environment which debuted in Orlando in June 2010 – to Universal Studios Hollywood.

The two companies also announced their plans to significantly expand The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood will be as impressive as what has been created in Orlando – and is expected to transform tourism in Los Angeles for decades to come. It will be a fully immersive environment for the entire family that brings the stories of Harry Potter to life and is faithful to the visual landscape of the films, including a majestic Hogwarts castle to serve as the centerpiece of the themed environment. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood will be created with the same commitment to authenticity and the same level of talent and resources as its Orlando counterpart.

“I am delighted that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been so popular with fans since the opening in Orlando last year and I am sure that the teams at Universal and Warner Bros. will bring their expertise and attention to detail to Hollywood to make this new experience equally as exciting,” said J.K. Rowling.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort opened in June 2010 and immediately captured global attention. It is a spectacularly themed land that includes Hogwarts castle, Hogsmeade and multiple themed attractions. Specific details of its expansion will be announced over time.

“The announcement of our partnership with Universal to bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Hollywood and expand what already exists in Orlando is probably the best holiday gift we could give to the legions of Harry Potter fans worldwide,” said Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. “Everyone involved with these projects is committed to continuing the enchantment of J.K. Rowling’s masterful books as they were brought to life on screen in our eight films and dedicated to extending the magic of the experience for generations of fans to come.”

“This is an incredible moment for Universal Studios and the millions of guests who visit our theme parks,” said Ron Meyer, President & COO, Universal Studios. “The Harry Potter stories are some of the most powerful of our time and we are honored to expand our Orlando experience and bring The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Hollywood, forever changing family tourism in Los Angeles.”

“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is an entirely new level of themed entertainment that brings the stories of Harry Potter to life in incredible ways,” said Tom Williams, Chairman and CEO, Universal Parks and Resorts. “We are thrilled to be able to share this experience with our guests in Hollywood. And we are thrilled to take what has been created in Orlando to even greater levels.”

Fantasy of Flight opens zip line and ropes course

POLK CITY, Fla. (October 12, 2011) - For years, Fantasy of Flight guests have been able to experience the thrill of flight vicariously through the stories of daring pilots, told both live and through multimedia exhibits. Many have even upgraded their experience to include a hot air balloon ride or biplane ride. But now, virtually every Fantasy of Flight guest can experience firsthand the excitement of "flight" and the rush of wind in their hair with the addition of Wing WalkAir - an all-new outdoor attraction featuring an adrenaline- pumping, 600-foot zip line suspended four stories above water and a three-level ropes course with 33 midair challenges. The attraction is the first of its kind in Polk County, located midway between Tampa and Orlando.

Safely harnessed and tethered to the zip line, guests get to "fly" through the air a total of 600 feet, to the landing tower and back again, giving them double the chance to take in the scenery or to see it for the first time if they were too scared to open their eyes! Meanwhile, the ropes course tests participants' balance and bravery with a series of 33 elements to be navigated while tethered to an overhead line, including exercises that mimic walking a tightrope, balance beam, and horizontal and vertical ladders, all while suspended as high as four stories off the ground. Three levels of challenges offer something for children to adults, whether mildly adventurous to absolutely fearless. And, while zip lining or navigating the ropes course, guests will get a birds' eye view of Fantasy of Flight, scenic Lake Agnes and the rare and vintage airplanes on display on the tarmac.

"Our mission has always been to inspire our guests and instill the confidence in our youth that they can achieve their dreams, no matter what they are. Our new Wing WalkAir zip line and ropes course not only adds a whole new element of fun and excitement to a visit, but also leaves participants with a great sense of accomplishment when they go home," said Kim Long, General Manager of Fantasy of Flight. "The ropes course is a perfect team building exercise for corporate groups, Scouts, youth groups and family reunions because participants can work together to successfully navigate the course."

Groups interested in team building and group challenges can also take advantage of Fantasy of Flight's diverse meeting space and on-staff event planners to create a full day or multiday event. Group rates are also available, call 863-984-3500 for details.

Regular, one-time admission for the zip line and ropes course is $22, or $15 for the zip line and $12 for the ropes course when purchased separately. Pricing is for children and adults and does not include 7 percent sales tax. Combo pricing is available with and without general admission included. Fantasy of Flight admission is not required for admission to Wing WalkAir. General admission is $28.95 for adults, $26.95 for seniors ages 55 and over and $14.95 for children, ages 6-12, plus 7 percent sales tax. Special rates for groups and package combination tickets are available.

To participate, guests must be at least 48" tall or must be accompanied by an adult. All guests must be able to understand and follow safety rules as given by the safety personnel. The participant weight limit is 300 pounds and guests must be able to fit in the harness. Athletic shoes are recommended; no flip flops or loose shoes are permitted.

The opening of Wing WalkAir takes place in plenty of time for Fantasy of Flight's signature event, its Fifth Annual Roar n' Soar, Saturday, Nov. 12 and Sunday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (gates open at 9 a.m.) The two-day racing extravaganza showcases the finest classic racing machines ever built for land, sea or air and promises to feature an even more thrilling, jam-packed roster of events, including hair-raising aerial demonstrations, nail-biting classic car slalom competitions, exhibition fly-bys from sleek vintage race boats, an aerial "dog fight" by powered paragliders, an exciting sports showcase featuring skilled motocross riders. Meanwhile, the classic boat show and regatta, and classic car show provide entertainment for the slightly more faint of heart.

The zip line and ropes course comprise only the first phase of Fantasy of Flight's Wing WalkAir attraction. Plans are already underway for new additions to the area including a rock climbing wall and rappelling area to be installed this winter.

Syfy stars at Universal Orlando Holloween Horror Nights

Last week, Universal Orlando Resort hosted stars from various Syfy shows at Halloween Horror Nights 21, including Josh Gates – host of “Destination Truth,” Colin Ferguson – star of “Eureka” and McKenzie Westmore – presenter of “Face Off.” While attending the event, they experienced all-new, terrifying haunted houses, such as Winter’s Night: The Haunting of Hawthorn Cemetery where they were haunted by the dead in a gothic graveyard.

80 Frankensteins - a charity by Universal

There is a charitable art project that is going on in Orlando right now. It is being put on by some artists at Universal Studios and many of the 80 pieces were created by people from the theme park industry. The idea is similar to cows on parade or the mickey 100 years pieces. 80 busts of Frankenstein were created and given to artist to do whatever they wanted to. They are going to be on display in downtown Orlando at the City Arts Factory on Orange Ave. It starts this Thursday at 6pm. They are going to be either sold or auctioned off over the course of a month to raise money for St. Judes Childrens Hospital. The opening event is this Thursday evening from 6-9 pm.  Also here is the Facebook link to more info or to lead others to from the site, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Its-Alive-Project/111333602291151.
